About Us
Mark’s journey into the world of dog mushing began later in life, but it has been a ride full of determination and dedication. With over 20 years of experience, Mark has mushed over 50,000 miles and trained with some of the best in the world. From Michigan to Alaska, his expertise is built on the foundation of working with champion kennels and learning how to build a world-class team.
Mark was born in Bozeman, Montana, but grew up
in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and West Lafayette, Indiana. He did not grow up around dogs of any kind, but found his way into the world of mushing by acquiring a fuzzy puppy and reading a book.
Misty, originally from Portland, Oregon, considers Yellowstone National Park her true home. While she doesn’t race, Misty plays a crucial role in every aspect of the kennel, from feeding and cleaning, to driving the dog truck.
At the heart of Walker’s Wild Ride is an incredible team of 27 sled dogs, the majority of which Mark and Misty have raised from birth. Their dogs are a unique mix of herding dog, combined with the championship bloodlines of Iditarod and stage-racing dogs.
As part of a commitment to giving back, Walker’s Wild Ride has established Mushing for Mott, a campaign supporting the Save a Heart Foundation at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mark experienced three childhood cardiac operations, and was treated at Mott between 1988 and 1994, and he hopes his efforts will help make a difference for others living with Congenital Heart Defects.
This summer, Mark and Misty will be in Juneau, Alaska, offering rides, kennel tours, and opportunities to play with puppies. They highly encourage fans, and supporters, to reach out and contact them if visiting The Last Frontier.
